At this point, Lennie knew he did another bad thing like he done in Weed. Lennie tried his hardest to remember what George told him about hiding in the brush and George will come for him. Curley's crew headed out in search of Lennie, so they could kill him. Instead, George recited Lennie's favorite story about the rabbits and how they have each other as good friends til the end. George pointed in the other direction trying to distract Lennie and shot his best friend on the back of his head.

Oh boy maybe he didn't want to shoot face to face good that he turned around. Sounds like an interesting book, maybe I read the novel.
