Chapter 9-11 The ending of Mariquita was very sad she kept her word on wanting to die then allowing the Japaneses to take advantage of her sexually would just make her lose her dignity and she would  be ashamed to look her husband Eddie and her children in the face. what a very sad ending never having to find her body  and her children growing up with out their Mother, even tho it was a sad ending.  I find it amazing how her own son Chris Perez Howard after retuning to Guam after 27 years, discovering his Chamorro identity and wondering about his Mother Mariquita searching for that missing part, he found that his mother was a good loving wife, mother, a great friend, a helpful person with a big heart and she died protecting her family, husband, friends, and with her dignity and will forever be remember The tragedies of Guam.

  2. I am also touched by this book, I would probably be in the same fate if it had happen to me, she was a courageous wife, mother, and daughter and friend. Her mother knew what was to become of her daughter because she cried when Mariquita left.
