Feb. 9. 2012
On feb. 9 we have read chapters 9, 10, 11 and 12.. we actually finished the book of, Mariquita A tragedy of Guam. This book was amazing, we learn somethings about guam that we never actually knew happen here on our island. So with Mariquita working for the Japanese soldiers that was just so terrible. They all didn't deserve to be treated like slaves and get abuse. But she was a really strong lady she had so much pride that's what kept her going. As Mariquita worked for the soldiers Mama pai took care or chris and helen. A lot of things ended up getting worst staying at tai. Mariquita goes messing and no one finds her that was so sad. In september 1945, Eddie returns to the island. He attempted to find Mariquita body, but even though he was able to locate the approximate place,he could never find her remains. Eddie remained in the U.S Navy for twenty years and retired as a warrant officer. Also the writer of this book is Chris howard Mariquita son.

I agree Mariquita was strong, her determination to live for her Eddie and children. I was sadden for Eddie being back and not finding her waiting for him. I was wondering that myself why? didn't they find her body, a mystery!
ReplyDeleteI love Mariquita's pride and not giving into the Jap's. That's true no one deserves to be treated like slaves. It's so sad I wish they knew what happened to Mariquita, she died without no one ever knowing but the Jap's that were apart of it. I wish they got caught!
